Abstract

Dean MacCannell´s works on tourism experience and authenticity shed new light on tourism studies four decades ago. This article criticizes his view about tourism experience, from a theoretical perspective (not that of empirical research). French sociology and north american ethnometodololy are analyzed as the base of his polemical approach.

Maximiliano Emanuel Korstanje, Universidad de Palermo Argentina

Professor Maximiliano Korstanje is Tourism BA,  Anthropologist (University of Moron, Argentina) and Ph. D (cand) in Social Psychology (University John. F. Kennedy, Argentina). One of his areas of expertise is the study of panic flights in disaster’s situations in modern and ancient times (Roman Empire) as well as the risk perception theory applied on travels and tourism. As specialist he is concerned in the effects of Sept-11 in Tourism and Economy. In addition, Korstanje has published more than 230 articles in peer-review journals throughout the world.
