Abstract

This article discusses Marcel Mauss as historical subject. This discussion is based on realizing his ideas in the ideas of other thinkers of the period such as Levi-Strauss (2004), Stockingjr (2004); Montandon (2011); Castro (2005) and Martin (2005). In this point of view , it analyze the production context of his "Essay on the Gift" and how his ideas are articulated in the formation and interpretation of human societies.  We use in the historiographical for interpreting diferente times this interpretation the historiographical  for interpreting different times and historical productions analyzed in addition to the inter-relationship between theory and practice applied to the understanding of the historical moments. Therefore it seeks to rescue and understand the "dimensions" of hospitality, in its initial conception, and in today's world, beyond the idea of “continuum”, discussed and propagated by contemporary historiography.

Airton José Cavenaghi, UAM

Possui doutorado em História Social pela Universidade de São Paulo (2004). Atualmente é professor tempo integral da Universidade Anhembi Morumbi e Professor do Programa de Mestrado em Hospitalidade da mesma Instituição. Tem experiência na área de História, com ênfase em História do Brasil, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: urbanização, Brasil (século XIX), fotografia, iconografia e cartografia. Ministra aulas nas graduações de Turismo, Hotelaria e Eventos, na mesma Instituição de Ensino, nas áreas de Patrimônio, Antropologia (espaço, território e identidade) e História.
