El volunturismo

la práctica del voluntariado durante los viajes desde la perspectiva de la hospitalidad

Resumen

El volunturismo está dirigido a turistas que participan en viajes, promovidos por empresas con o sin ánimo de lucro, para realizar labores de voluntariado de diversa índole, tanto a escala nacional como internacional. Se cree que la práctica del volunturismo proporciona un escenario favorable para experiencias hospitalarias en las que los voluntarios pueden actuar con hospitabilidad del mismo modo que sus anfitriones, por lo que el objetivo principal fue investigar la manifestación de la hospitalidad y el comportamiento hospitalario en la experiencia del volunturismo. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo, exploratorio-descriptivo, con datos recogidos a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas con líderes de organizaciones especializadas en volunturismo y volunturistas. Como resultado, se encontró la presencia de rasgos que remiten a la hospitalidad en valores expresados por el ejercicio de la actividad voluntaria, la motivación de los turistas voluntarios y sus habilidades hospitalarias regidas por el espíritu o esencia de la hospitalidad genuina. Se identificó que pueden ocurrir episodios de inhospitalidad o incluso hostilidad debido a la actitud de volunturistas, a la falta de estructura o enfoque de las organizaciones especializadas.
