This editorial marks the twentieth year of the Revista Brasileira de Pesquisa em Turismo (RBTUR). Connecting the past and the future, the 475 articles published by the journal were analyzed with the support of artificial intelligence (AI). The collection was presented to the AI, and five questions were asked. The answers provide a comprehensive and structured synthesis of the body of research published in RBTUR. These syntheses also contribute to our understanding of tourism research, particularly in Brazil and Latin America. The analyses show that, over RBTUR’s two decades of existence, tourism research has undergone significant transformations. Methodological development and increasing research rigor are particularly evident in some specific areas. Changes in preferred research objects are also apparent. Tourism research has become more diverse in terms of topics and purposes. The range of concepts and theories adopted and applied has also expanded considerably, particularly through the incorporation of ideas from other fields of knowledge. The interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity of tourism research have been strengthened.
